Western Painted Turtles (Chrysemys picta bellii)

TYPE: Painted Turtles

BASIC INFORMATION:

Western Painted Turtles grow to be the largest of the painted turtles (typically 7 - 8 inches). They range from Canada to Mexico, so adults, once acclimated, make very good outdoor pond turtles in all climates. Juveniles do well in community tanks, learn to come to feeding hands, love to bask, and stay very active.

True omnivores, they will eat pellets, most water plants, romaine lettuce, insects, fish, worms crustaceans and meat. Western Painted Turtles are distinctly different from other painteds in that they have very impressive red and black belly patterns. An excellent choice for beginning and intermediate keepers.
